FAQ Sign

Frequently Asked Questions are an important tool for SEO success.

A few years back, I wrote about the importance of FAQ pages for websites. Aside from the customer-facing benefits – helping people find answers quickly, reducing the need to contact customer service departments – frequently asked questions also bode well for SEO purposes, showing up in organic search results as:

  • Featured Snippets
  • People Also Ask
  • Rich Results

Google offers lots of opportunities for websites to rank in these question-and-answer sections, and now they are showing more FAQs in rich results than before.

What This Means for Businesses

For businesses with Frequently Asked Questions on their websites – either on a dedicated FAQ page, or listed on a separate page – this means the possibility of up to two of those entries showing up in their organic search result.

Here’s an example of several rich results for the search query “seo”:

FAQs in Google Search Rich Results

Rich results display for FAQs on several organic search listings.

You can see that in addition to the main page that ranks, the search result also displays two questions from that same page directly underneath. This is great for positioning the brand as an authority in the industry and as a helpful resource for buyers – existing and potential.
